- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Aruppukottai, Virudhunagar district was started with the approval of ICAR, New Delhi from April 2006 with a mandate to build , sustain and improve the living standards of the peasants of Virudhunagar district of Tamilnadu
- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Virudhunagar is situated inside the campus of Regional Research Station, TNAU, Aruppukottai is situated at 9° 31’ and 9° 47’ North latitude and 77° 57’ and 78° 56’ East longitude and at an altitude of 50 MSL.
- The operation mode of the KVK is by demonstrating the location specific technologies to overcome the field related problems by providing a technical support in their crop husbandry
- The Virudhunagar district is unique in geography that it consists of cultivable lands from unfavorable (rainfed) to favorable (assured irrigation areas). The Subject matter specialists of KVK are involved in carrying the technical knowledge in crop cultivation and building confidence in these wider target production environments.
- Assessment and Refinement of technologies and Demonstrations of the proven technologies in a large scale in crops like rice, millets, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables and fodder crops besides proper cattle management and human care (food science) are the regular tasks of the KVK.
- This KVK develops confidence in rural youths and farm women by imparting trainings to improve their entrepreneurship skills and capacity building in areas like vermiculture, organic agriculture, production of agro bio inputs, vegetables, fruits and food processing besides offseason livelihood alternates like tailoring , embroidery, mushroom culture or backyard poultry.
- Established linkages with the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal husbandry, fisheries and NGO’s in the district are the strengths of this KVK to extend its services to the stakeholders in a successful manner.
