Sugarcane Research Station, Melalathur is located in the Koundinya Nadhi sub basin, which is one among the lead centers for Sugarcane research and is located at Melalathur Village of Gudiyatham Taluk, in Vellore District, which is 4 Kms away from Gudiyatham Town. Sugarcane varieties released from this station are COG 93076, COG 94077, COG 95076, COG (SC) 5. The recently released variety COG (SC) 5 has the special features of Suitability to tannery effluent polluted soils, Good ratoonability, Moderately resistant to red rot, Suited for jaggery making.
