Rice Research Station / Krishi Vigyan Kendra is located at Tirukuppam village which lies between Thiruvallur and Chennai in the Chennai Arakonam railway route. This is one among the lead centre for rice research for identifying and releasing suitable drought tolerant rice varieties for dry tracts of North Eastern zone of Tamil Nadu. The main mandate of the RRS/KVK is to undertake basic and strategic research on rice, conducting Adaptive Research Trials (ART)  on improved crop production technologies like irrigation management, nutrient management, pest and disease management, conducting On Farm Testing (OFT), Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) with emerging technologies to save water and improve the productivity, conducting short term and long term trainings in agriculture to farmers and capacity building to extension functionaries of Thiruvallur district.
