Cooum sub basin possess a total area of 9938 ha comprising Tiruvallur(6132 ha), Kancheepuram(3683 ha) and Vellore(121ha) districts. The sub basin consists around 80 tanks as irrigation source. The blocks covered under Cooum basin are Kadambathur, Tiruvallur and Poonamallee in Tiruvallur district and the major crops cultivated are Paddy, Groundnut, Green gram, Black gram, Ragi, Banana, Sugarcane, Mango, Lemon, Coconut, Brinjal, Chillies, Bhendi, Rose, Jasmine,Casurina etc.
